The owner of the building, Varma Mutual Pension Insurance Company, is offering the School of Arts, Design and Architecture temporary premises on the fourth floor of Arabiakeskus for the Degree Programme in Film and Television. The premises will be available, according to present knowledge, until the end of May.
The Department of Film, Television and Scenography is the biggest user of Media Centre Lume. The structural analysis of the media centre, which included renovation proposals, was presented at an internal meeting in mid-March. Varma is committed to making the repair work stated in the analysis as soon as possible in cooperation with Aalto University Facility services.
The indoor air quality problems at Media Centre Lume have been investigated for a long time. After the briefing in October, a decision was made to carry out an indoor air quality assessment. The cleaning, vacuuming and air amount adjustments of the ventilation ducts will soon be completed. At other premises of the building, the ducts were cleaned last year but the start of work at the Media Centre was postponed at the request of the occupants of the premises.
Temporary premises have been offered to the Degree Programme in Film and Television from the end of January. Teaching facilities have been obtained from the new premises of the Department of Art on the fifth floor and discussions are ongoing on the use of Kielistudio 1 at Arabiakeskus. Working space has been offered to employees at Galleria passage and movie theater Tulio in Sörnäinen has been available for film screenings.
’We have worked in close cooperation with Varma regarding the premises at Media Centre Lume. The renovation of the film screening theatres is the first renovation to be completed and is due to be ready before the summer holidays. Now the Varma offer for new temporary premises makes the situation easier for us until the renovation work is completed,’ says Aalto University’s Property Manager Risto Keski-Nisula.
