TOKYO & Favoptic present: Design competition on eyeglass frames

silmälasikuvaTOKYO and eyeglass company Favoptic are organizing an eyewear competition. Similar competition has been arranged in 2010 and now it’s time to win great moneyish prizes again! The theme for the competition is Eyeglass frames – material and colours.

And here are the rules:

Favoptic has chosen four frame samples chosen to be plastic/acetate frames that have shapes that work well both being comfortable on the wearer and also suitable for many types and powers of lenses. These samples can be used by those entering in the contest to copy or to experiment with. To start with we have supplied two copies of each style – if there is a need we can provide more samples. Favoptic has the design rights to these styles or they are considered to be in the public domain. These frames can be found from TOKYOs Service Point.

The objective for the entrants is to come up with ideas based on using original materials and/or colours. Of course the colours can be simple one or two colour choices or elaborate paintings.

The ideas and designs entered by a student must be left at the TOKYO Service Point no later than 2pm of March 2nd 2015.

A representative of Favoptic will visit the offices of the Aalto University Student Union in the beginning of January 2015 in order to assist with technical matters and will be available for private discussions with the students interested in entering into the competition. The date will be informed later in TOKYOs webpages & newsletter in January.

A jury will be appointed by Favoptic but separate from Favoptic capable of judging the entries based on the criteria creativity, design, fashion and feasibility.

The winners will be announced at the annual ArsYO Valentine’s day skating event 2015 – date will be announced in early 2015 via TOKYO.

The following prizes will be given out: First prize 1000e / Second prize: 500e

Any taxes that might apply will be paid by the winners. Favoptic gains the intellectual rights of the winning designs entered into the contest without any other compensation.

The decisions made by the appointed jury are final and cannot be challenged or overruled.

Good luck for the competition!
