What is TOKYO?

TOKYO is a student association which brings together the students of Aalto University’s School of Arts, Design and Architecture as well as its former students, the alumni. TOKYO supports the goals of the students by taking an active role in public discourse in and out of Aalto University.

The association carries on the traditions of the former Student Union TOKYO which was founded to serve the same purpose in 1961. Both organizations have and continue to organize all kinds of events and parties as well as tirelessly supporting ARTS students and advocating for their best interests. Although TOKYO is no longer formally a student union (that role being filled by AYY), we still maintain a key role in the ARTS community.

More information of TOKYO’s history can be found here. Also check out our FAQ if you have any nagging questions.

The membership of the association costs 8€ per year for all students of Aalto ARTS (alumni of TaiK/ARTS 15 €). Upon joining you will immediately gain access to all of TOKYO’s membership benefits. You can join and pay the membership fee at the service point (with cash or a card) or online when you register your attendance for the academic year in WebOodi (this does not apply to all international students).

At the moment TOKYO has been busy dealing for example with the aftermath of our school moving to Otaniemi. Over and above that TOKYO also arranges events for ARTS students, such as the Christmas & Spring Sales, annual trip to Lapland and the costume party Maskerad. You are warmly welcomed!

To get involved in TOKYO’s activities, don’t hesitate to contact the board! There is something for everyone to do in our Committee or even just specific projects. We look forward to hearing from you!
